Uganda draw defending champions zambia in 2013 nations cup qualifiers

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Uganda Cranes are set to face Nations cup defending champions Zambia´s copper bullets Chipolopolo” in the final qualification round of the 2013 Africa cup of Nations.

Uganda in Pot B was  drawn against Zambia for final qualifying round draws held today in Johansburg South Africa hosts of the next year’s 29th edition of the tournament with the first leg away in Zambia and the return leg in Kampala.

The cranes will be thankfull for not beeing drawn against west african opposition with Giants Ivory coast, ghana Senegal or North african teams like Algeria or  Tunisia who in the past have always proved a huddle  for the qualification of Uganda.

Many will look at the draw as a fair deal which however should not be taken lightly as the Cranes´oponents are the reighning African champions.

THE DRAW

In total there were 30 teams remaining and they were been split into two pots based on their CAF rating from the last three Nations Cup finals.

Pot 1 contained Zambia, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco, Mali, Tunisia, Cameroon, Angola, Nigeria, Gabon, Sudan, Algeria, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso.

They were drawn against one of the following sides in Pot 2: CAR, Senegal, Niger, Botswana, Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique, Togo, Cape Verde, Ethiopia, Liberia, DR Congo, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone and Libya.

The matches will be played over two legs, the first to take place on the weekend of September 7-9, with the second legs scheduled for the weekend of October 12-14. The 15 teams who emerge victorious from the ties will join hosts South Africa in the field for the Nations Cup which runs from January 19 to February 10 next year.
